Great….
I thought it was really great and Sally Field always does a stellar performance, it’s not a super duper old movie (1991) but still old enough to be back then cause movies were made so much better then and they always had better endings weather: good or bad - hero or villain.

An excellent story of a mother's love and determination for her child
I really enjoyed the film Not without my Daughter. My mother recommended it to me a while ago and I'm really glad I watched it. It stars Sally Field as Betty Mahmoody an American wife and Mother married to an Iranian born Doctor who wants to visit his family in Iran. She protests due to her concerns about the country's safety, but relents after he convinces her that they will be safe. Her husband nicknamed Moody, later becomes tyrannical towards her after visiting his family and desiring to live in agreement with their beliefs. He doesn't want to return to America and wants Betty and their daughter to stay. Betty fights this and wants to return to America, but he makes it clear that she will have to return alone. Betty, now knowing that her marriage to her husband is over then starts ... I really enjoyed the film Not without my Daughter. I thought the story was well played throughout the film, by all involved. Even though Sally was panned by some for her performance (She received a Golden Razzie nomination for Worst Actress) I thought she managed to put in a pretty good performance as the ultra determined Betty Mahmoody. The setting was appropriate and I couldn't help but root for Betty and be touched by her mother's love. I was dissapointed by the ending, which to me left things hanging without real closure hence my 4 star review, but this is an excellent film and I'd advise anyone to get it before the prices go higher. It's now Out of Print (OOP) will cost at least $15 for any copy where as before you could get a new copy for $10 or less. Movies like The Burning Bed with the late Farraw Faucett have seen their prices go higher and that movie now is close to $30 even with a used copy. So if you like the film get it now and make a few backup copies with DVD Shrink or DVDFab HD Decrpyter, then burn those with Imgburn, CDBurnerXP or your regular DVD burning software. Those softwares are free and it will be worth it to have a backup copy in case your present copy gets damaged, lost or scratched. I hope this helps, jwde3

Unsuspecting Sally visits Iran with her husband (medical doctor) and only daughter and finds her self as a prisoner of her husband who does not want to return to the US primarily due to guilt of not serving his religious beliefs. Though it is true, the portrayal of Islamic practices in the movie is subject to debate. This could lead to hatred towards Muslims. And the undisputed promotion of western values may lead to wrong conclusions. Though this movie is available in most church video collections, I would have second thoughts about categorizing it as a Christian movie. The acting and the production is great and you never feel bored. Since it is a true plot, as it ... Every American Should Watch This Film! A MUST SEE!
Sally Field is simply amazing in this film of how what "appears" to be is NOT what is! ALL AMERICANS NEED TO WATCH THIS FILM just to see how long there have been other countries who hate us, hate women and have total disregard for Christianity, the Western way of life. This is a TRUE STORY! I have seen the actual woman Sally Field portrays...and her story is one that will shake you to the core...especially in today's times when Iraq is clearly back in the news and making it's hatred for America quite known. The husband of Betty Mahmoody was a doctor in the US. He was "well respected." He "fit in" to the complete American way...until he deicded that he wanted to "visit" Iraq...formerly known as Persia. Only the Grace of God and the ... Sally Field is simply amazing in this film of how what "appears" to be is NOT what is! Has to kidnap his own Wife and Child to make them love him..When an American Woman Betty Mahmoody falls in love and marries a Middle Easterner who lived in the States for 20 years together they have a cute little Girl..when her Hubby swears on the Kuran (sp?) they will return from visiting his Family after 2 weeks she of course believes he values his religion the same way we do here..in the USA one does not swear on the Holy Bible to a lie, but apparently in the middle east one lies in any way they can to get what they want..once he has her and their Daughter there they become his prisoners..he becomes abusive takes her money and her passports leaving her with no escape..finally he says "you can go, but our Daughter stays with me" she finds out to her horror her Daughter could be ...
