We Miss You, Richie!!!!
Great work by one the greatest American comedians!! The beauty of his style, unabashed truthfulness and appreciation of all sides of black humor is still remarkable. Today's "comedians" aren't very funny and tend to be more abjectly political but that appears to be what most folks want.....or are willing to tolerate in order to maybe get a laugh or two. Richard's material, some of which is nearly forty five years old, is still socially relevant and funny as hell. I laughed when I bought some of his albums back in the 70's and those same albums still make me laugh. The work of a master craftsman is timeless. Rich.....you make me laugh my ass off.....still. I was excited to be able to purchase this collection. First started listening to this man when I was about 11 or 12, now close to sixty. When I received and opened the package, it was so much more than I expected. This is a true gem of this comedians work and I know will bring back fond memories and laughter that makes my face hurt. Packaging is awesome, very well created and put together. I am very happy with this purchase.I was excited to be able to purchase this collection. One of the best comedy box sets available bar none!
A plethora of recordings from the comic genius Richard Pryor. It doesn't get much better than this. Once you aquire this set you have a huge jump start on having most all of his recordings.If you are a huge fan. The first disc is a mono recording set to both left and right speakers and lacks any real depth or demension as far as stereo seperation goes. It doesn't matter as this is a one mike stand up routine that does not really require stereo. It's also an early Richard who is still trying to find his groove and rythm. So I have no qualms about it being included I am actually surprised they did include it. As these days 'complete' is not always true and something is either edited or left out for some licensing/money reason or feel it's unqualified to be included. I beleive this is the ... I beleive this is the first time these have been available on CD. Having 8-tracks of a few of these back in the 70's and early 80's this set was a must for me. It just took time to aquire a set. If you have ever liked Richard at any point in his career and have longed for those belly busting laughs he could extract from you, you should really consider this set. It's on par with George Carlin's Little David Years set but a bigger and bolder statement with it's great packaging. Any serious Pryor fan should have this in thier collection for keeps not just for a listen and then re-sale it. Of course you could do that if you wish but to me this is a keeper and you will probably not see a re-issue. If it is it will be a scaled down version more than likely not including the nice booklet or large box package. Richard Pry'H' in all his glory! Some of his best sets are here!
