About this product

Product Information

David Pelzer was born on December 29, 1960 in San Francisco, California. He survived what is reported to be the third worst case of child abuse in California state history. The victims of the other two cases are dead. At the age 12, Pelzer's teachers risked their careers to notify the authorities and saved his life. He was removed from his home and his abusive mother, and made a ward of the court. He was placed in foster care until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 18. While in the service, Pelzer achieved the rank of Sargent and was hand-picked to midair refuel the highly secretive SR-71 Blackbird and the F-117 Stealth Fighter, which played a major role in Operations Just Cause, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm. His first book, A Child Called "It", was published in 1995 and dealt with his abusive childhood. His other works include The Lost Boy: A Foster Child's Search for the Love of a Family, A Man Named Dave: A Story of Triumph and Forgiveness, Help Yourself: Finding Hope, Courage, and Happiness, and Moving Forward. He received several awards including the J. C. Penney Golden Rule Award in 1990 and the 2005 National Jefferson Award. Dave Pelzer is the New York Times bestselling author of A Child Called "It," The Lost Boy, and A Man Named Dave. He travels throughout the nation offering keynotes on overcoming obstacles. He has appeared on Montel and Leeza.

    amazing book!!

I absolutely love Dave Pelzer's story, he and I had very similar experience's in life. The only difference is my mother didn't physically abuse me. I wish i could meet him some day and talk to him get to know him a little better. this book has helped me in a lot of struggles and i've cried so many times while reading it, it really gets to heart this book. i would recommend this book to everyone who wants to understand the struggles we deal with when having alcoholic parents.. It will help you understand how it makes us feel and why it's difficult for us later in life.. i don't wanna keep blabbing and give away the book however! lol on a scale of ten this book rates 10/10 because its PERFECTION. I love how he openly discusses his feelings without holding back.

  • Harrowing Narrative

Fact based story of extreme child abuse that highlights triumph over tragedy as well as the resiliency of the human spirit. You will never forget this story if you have the courage to read it. A healing exercise for adult survivors of child abuse and an exuberant celebration of life. I am a life coach for an eleven year old boy and have given him this book with the blessing of his mother to add perspective to his life in understanding those things that really matter and those things that hold lesser importance.

  • A Boy Called It

This is an excellent book to purchase and read.I Loved the book because you learn from how to find your inner faith when it seems you cant go any further. It was sad but also a wake up call for America that there are many out there as the boy in the book and we need to reach out more because kids like this one is the next generation. We need to sense signs when we come upon children like this to reach out to help. This book gives encouragment, sense of self-image to our everyday life if one could come out of what the boy in the book came from with forgivness and output on life to make something of hisself we as individuals can gain encourgament to do the same in any given situtation in everyday life.It gives us encourgment, inner faith, and inner strength to do the same in any situtiation we ...

  • The Horrible Truth

I cant read a book more than once without being bored with it. But wiht this book, i cant put it down, no matter how many times ive read it (its kinda like that favorite movie you love, or your favorite article of clothing) the first time i read it was back in 5th grade, and now i'm a college freshman and that book still touches me like it was the 1st time. I recommend this book to everyone young and old. It will make you realize the horrible truth that life is not always peachy clean. and you cant even trust the ones closest to you. I really admire David regardless of what his mother did to him, he still loved and somewhat respected here, and even through all the rough times, he still saw that ray of hope, and never gave up

  • Great deal on a hard bound not meant for the squeamish
