About this product

Product Information

Boris Karloff performs in one of his specialty roles, in the second of Columbia's "Mad Doctor" series. Nearing the completion of his cure for cancer, Karloff's research requires that he freeze the subjects he is attempting to cure, and administer the medicine while they are in a suspended state. Unfortunately, he is accidentally frozen along with his patients, only to be discovered by another young scientist many years later. Once he and his patients are revived--by hilariously low-tech means--the doctor is distressed to find that his hard-won medical breakthrough has been lost. Desperate to rediscover his cure, he resorts to murdering his thawed-out patients, and spirals further and further into madness.

    I recommend this rarity on its preservation and restoration quality alone. The lead actor seldom disappointed.

    It is a highly enjoyable viewing experience, and I also like the fact it was readily accessible with an attractive photo design illuminating the case packaging. This is a fairly rare movie, one which doesn't surface very often as others in the horror/scifi genre do.

    The Man With Nine Lives.

    We found the movie to be well written, well acted and suspenseful. Black and White movies are usually better scripted and the performances are usually top notch. Different era with less distractions resulted in a focused piece of ART.

    Not To Be Missed: This 1940 Karloff Classic Chiller!

    In this superb, but increasingly hard-to-find classic Boris Karloff flick, Boris plays a scientist obsessed with preserving life through cryogenics, that is lowering body temperatures in order to slow metabolism and kill off diseases. This is hardly a revolutionary idea today, but it was radical, "mad-scientist" stuff then, and Boris plays the part to the hilt. IF you can find this at any price, it's worth grabbing!

    Boris Karloff, on ice!

    Karloff plays the mad scientist again with wonderful results in this 40s sci-fi horror. He's got a mad-lab on a deserted island up north and conducts experiments which have to do with cold-storage of corpses. Karloff fans will love this one! Sony does a great job on the transfer, too. Recommended!
