Broadly compatible with Windows including 64 bit and server systems, the modem uses the CPU of the host computer for high compression throughput due to direct parallel access. Features include ring detection and qualification - eliminating unintended wake-on-ring events due to activity on the phone line other than ringing, as well as handling pulse dial control to eliminate system timing dependencies common with soft modems. Small and functional
Overall the product works well with windows " fax and scan". Windows did detect the modem and installed all necessary drivers. My only problem is there was no instructions on how to actually set up before using it. I had to do some internet searching and finally found a site that had a video which showed step by step and this made "set up" fairly simple...

I run a small business. Use fax a lot. Had so many problems with clumsy external faxes. Decided to buy a soft modem. Have read many reviews and decided to go for this model US Robotics USR 5639. The device installed in seconds from the moment i have connected it to the USB. Since then (4 weeks) working fine, very easy to use. Simple interface. Faxes are delivered clear. VERY GOOD VALUE for the $.., but keep in-mind the price paid was at auction & the retail is $59 & up ..

Over the last handful of years, computers no longer come with Serial ports and/or modems. Although I have a number of computers (towers, desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones), I recently had a need to use an old application that needed to dial into a gate access system. I found this modem with a USB port on ebay, and the price was right - and I felt it would be something good/useful to have in my tool bag. Got it - it did what it was supposed to do.
