    The author of this book - Marion Chesney on my edition - is probably better known by one of her other pen names - M.C. Beaton (she writes the Hamish MacBeth and also the Agatha Raisin mysteries under that name). Marion Chesney is the name she writes her Regency Romances under. And this is a really enjoyable example of the genre. It's probably my favourite of hers - and she has written dozens of novels under this name alone. The heroine moves in as a companion to a (predictable) awful woman, and ends up winning the marriage prize of the finest member of the aristocracy. So far, quite predictable (but really, we wouldn't be reading books like this if we wanted a sad ending!). It's the historical details of the book that make it a delight.
