About this product

Product Information

When Ellie and her friends go camping, they have no idea they're leaving their old lives behind forever. Despite a less-than-tragic food shortage and a secret crush or two, everything goes as planned. But a week later, they return home to find their houses empty and their pets starving. Something has gone wrong--horribly wrong. Before long, they realize the country has been invaded, and the entire town has been captured--including their families and all their friends. Ellie and the other survivors face an impossible decision: They can flee for the mountains or surrender. Or they can fight.

  • The Ellie Series is an interesting perspective on war and guerilla activity by an Australian author.

Good condition books both hardbound and soft cover.

  • Wasted $4.16.

Having read good things about this book, particularly that it was the Australian version of Red Dawn, I definitely looked forward to it. After all, it's a great title. But no, it's not up to the movie version, at least, of Red Dawn, nor is it especially exciting. It's a well written tale of teenage angst with an invasion and bit of sabotage thrown in. But for an adult reader, too much angst and too little guerrilla warfare. Nor do the teens' emotions ring entirely true. The clashes with the enemy are too complex, and include the technical glitch of exploding gasoline (petrol) tanks. Nope, gasoline must be vaporized to explode, otherwise you merely get a very hot fire. It's quite possible that teenagers would enjoy it, though.

  • Quick read

Read this book a few years ago, and just reread it now as I’ll have to teach it in the fall to 9th graders. It’s a fast paced book with relatable characters doing things they never imagined. The entire series is worth reading if you enjoy young adult books and are interested in hero fighting themes.

  • A great series that should be more widely known

Tomorrow When the War Began and its sequels are about a group of Australian teenagers who are camping out in the bush when Australia's invaded. Since they're the only Aussies in their area who haven't been rounded up, they feel it's their job to fight back---and they do so, at great cost to themselves. These books don't gloss over the bad side of war---the characters get more and more burnt-out as things go on, and wonder often if they're really doing the right thing. I'd recommend them highly for any YA reader.

  • Great book

This is definately a great write. I read 4 of the 7 books and they kept me wanting more. I didn't put a single one down until it was finished. If you like people fighting for survival this is definately a perfect one for you!
