About this product

Product Information

AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO THE DARK TOWER SERIES--INCLUDING BOOK-BY-BOOK ANALYSIS AND INSIGHT INTO STEPHEN KING'S CREATIVE PROCESS. In 1970, Stephen King embarked on what would become the crowning achievement in his literary career-the Dark Tower. The seven-volume series, written and published over a period of 30 years, was inspired by Robert Browning's poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came," as well as J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings , and the spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone. With the full cooperation of Stephen King himself, The Road to the Dark Tower examines the epic journey of the author to complete a story that threatened to overwhelm him. In this indispensable companion, Bev Vincent presents a book-by-book analysis of each volume in the series, tracing the Dark Tower's connections to King's other novels including The Stand , Insomnia , and Hearts in Atlantis , and offering insights from the author about the creative process involved in crafting his lifelong work-a work that has consumed not only Stephen King, but his legion of devoted readers. This is essential reading for any Dark Tower-or Stephen King-fan.

  • A Fascinating Read for Dark Tower Lovers!

Bev Vincent has truly written a wonderful book that explores the entire world of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. He summarizes each book, explains how other non-DT works fit into the Dark Tower univers, fully explains the main characters, and includes many other fascinating aspects of the Dark Tower series. This book is almost as hard to put down as the Dark Tower books themselves; it goes into great detail but never gets bogged down with too much information. If you have read the Dark Tower series and would like to revisit it, would like to find out which stories relate to the Dark Tower (check my guide on ebay for a more complete list, however), or are just a fan of Stephen King, you owe it to yourself to read this book! It is well worth the price, and even more worth your ...

  • The Road to the Dark Tower by Bev Vincent (2004)

If you are as enamored by the dark, Arthurian, wild west, post-apocalyptic world(s) "facilitated" by master scribe Stephen King, then this companion guide is truly indispensible. As his magnus opus, his "Jupiter", Stephen King penned a sprawling epic encompassing many of his other great works of fiction. Alongside Robin Furth's double-volumed compendium set, The Road to the Dark Tower grants vantage top perspective on this uber-story. Trust me, after scouring the website searching for much of the information found in this book, I was more than pleasantly surprised. Without giving away any spoilers, Bev Vincent adds fascinating context and third person flair to an outstanding literary achievement. Read it, by Gan, read it!!!

  • Ka is a wheel

The timelines are probably my favorite part of the book. If you love Dark Tower you’ll definitely appreciate the content. It’s a must have for your Dark Tower collection.

  • A1 interpretation and analysis of the DT series.

I am an English teacher and this summer decided to read the DT series with my high school class. Being my second reading, I was sure I knew most of the kinds of info needed for a literature class...until I found THIS book. Great insight, valuable references to other works (including King's),thought provoking analysis.
