Hammer Horror's Hound of the Baskervilles

Love this movie! It's my favorite Hammer Horror and my favorite Sherlock Holmes movie. Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes is fantastic! He brings so much to the character and his Holmes is very likable. The gothic settings are first rate and the suspense is spot on. The music score is first rate as well, bringing atmosphere and menace to the forefront. You honestly can't go wrong with this movie.... highly recommended! **Fun fact: This was the first Sherlock Holmes movie to be shot in color**

  • Hound is not all bad!

When you see a film featuring Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee you automatically expect Van Helsing & Dracula. You deinitely know it's a horror movie. What you get is one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's haunting Sherlock Holme's thrillers. Cushing is the cerebral detective hired to end the curse on the house of Baskerville. Lee plays Sir Henry Baskerville, the last heir to family estate & title. The film is very faithful to the original story so I won't dwell on it. They do a great job of catching the atmophere of the moors. There also some good visual effects which help with the sppoky atmoshere. The story moves along & keeps you informed so you are not confused while keeping you in the dark as to how it will end. (In case you don't already know!) This may not be the best version of this tale ...

  • OK but not as great as the IMBD reviewers rave.

Not as good as either the Rathbone or Jeremy Brett versions. Story line strays from the original Conan Doyle novel.

  • Great old B&W Horror flick, a great watch...

Anytime that Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing are together, it's going to be good. Peter Cushing had made the Hound of the Baskervilles for the BBC, but it just gets better when you have two Sci-Fi/Horror stars like these two together.

  • If you like Hammer films this is a good one.

Have watched this movie many times through my time watching movies but never owned a copy. My favorites are Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee and to have them in the same movie is a plus . The first part of the story is a little rough but the acting is great.
