Its ok
The game is fun but the battle system is pretty random so save often. This game can take a lil getting used to but for how old it is and most copies are under $6 it's a different rpg for anyone collection.

Drakkhen is great diversion. Worthy of a re-make.
Drakkhen is one of those games i needed to come back to. When i originally played it, I was entranced at the time by the Wizardry,Might and Magic, and Final Fantasy games for the Snes. When I started up on the game this time, I became attracted to the game's early 3-D view, its easy save function, its simple RPG interface. The Wiki on it states this: Drakkhen was notable for being among the first role-playing games to feature a three-dimensional playing field. It did not employ a fully 3D game engine, instead implementing a hybrid approach using vectors and bitmapped character-scaling algorithms. Drakkhen features an animated day-night cycle, and the ability to wander freely about the game world, both rarities for a game of its era. ....while I love more complex RPGs, Drakkhen is great ... It's roll'em up and go is kinda refreshing. It also spawned a sequel, called Dragonview. A game doesn't get a sequel if it sucks. Would love to play a remake of this game. Not everyone with agree with my rating of this game. Some would probably rate it 3 stars.

History: Before being a SNES game it was actually a PC game (particularly for the Amiga, for those who remember) that was developed by French game makers who called themselves Draconian. Soon after MicroProse released it in 1990 it only took one year to be made into a SNES game by Kemco. One of the more important programmers to work on this game was Osamu Tani. About the Game: This is a role playing game. You can choose to build your own cast of four different characters. You can choose the gender of your character as well as the type of the characters. Character types range from: Wizard (aka mage) / Sorceress Priest / Priestess Viking Warrior / Amazon Warrior Scout (male) / Scout (female) You can even give your characters individual names. The game simulates 3D by incorporating a ... This is one of the first attempts to break free of the 2D game play and this is one of the reasons that many feel that this game is very much a milestone in gaming. It is this 3D attempt that I believe is why it is a must have item for the die hard game fan and or game creator. Review: Drakkhen is a replaying game. Drakkhen has a very lonely and even eerie, creepy feel to it that has actually attracted a loyal and somewhat cult following. I am sure that this game serves an inspiration to game developers and many who wish to get into the field of game programming. The music is a perfect match for the overall game with the strange melodic tone it presents. The sound effects are also very strange in that the talking resembles mumbling and the sound that enemy monsters make unintentionally resembles rude noises. The Drakkhen world is a rectangular field which is divided into four realms, each of which is ruled by a pair of monarchs. Game Play: The game consists of solving puzzles to acquire items to advance throughout the Drakkhen world. This is not a fighting game; however you do get to fight with certain creatures during the game. In these fighting sequences you will be in control of one of your characters and will fight along all of your companions. Your success in fights will be determined by the amount of items you have acquired and how much you have leveled up your characters. The fights are very limited and feel mostly as though you have no real control. The true game play in Drakken is in the traveling and solving of puzzles and riddles. As in most role-playing games you can buy and sell items at different location all throughout the game. You can sell and buy clothing for your characters, meaning upgrades such as shields, shoes, boots, leather garments for protection, and other such items, not full customs as you might expect in newer games.

Hak! Hak! Drakkhen! As the battle cry is known within the game. I've had this game for years...I don't recall why I got it, or where, or even when, I just thought I'd write a review for it. The "Good" rating I have given it is how I feel about the game. You can choose to create your own characters, or have the game do it for you. The game has a battery-backup (Unlike Jurassic Park for SNES) and it allows up to 2 separate games to be saved at one time. Basically the objective of the game is this: There are 8 Drakkhen (which is a half-human half dragon according to the game) warlords that populate the island in which you need to collect gemstones from, called "tears", from each of them. Once you collect the 8 tears, you proceed to the Earth region from ... Hak! Hak! Drakkhen! As the battle cry is known within the game. The plot is confusing, as in, who are the 4 characters you are controlling? Where is this "human world" that they came from? How did they get to the dragon world? I didn't really understand how the dragon world would destroy the human world if the 4 protagonists you control didn't get the 9th tear. But anyways. Still a good game to play. The day/night cycle is really cool, despite that night goes by much faster than day does, the monsters make the most unusual sounds I've ever heard, and if you get stuck within the citadel of the Air Princess for example, the "exit instantly" icon comes in really handy. The most powerful weapon and armor in the game, the Dragon Sword and Dragon Armor, are located within the citadel of the Fire Prince, and, they re-spawn after you have collected them when you re-enter the citadel. Nice. The sword, which can be equipped by all 4 of your characters (even the wizard!), sells for 250,000 Jade if you can find the wandering merchant. Sweet. The major downfalls of this game is the status screen for 1. You never know when your characters are due for the next level, because it doesn't tell you. This is probably the only RPG I've ever played that doesn't give you your status. The game notifies you during or after battle your character gained a level. The second downfall is the "wandering merchant". It is just that. There is no set place to where you can go when you want to buy and sell weapons, items and armor. When he does appear as a random encounter on the world map, his selection is very limited. It's pure luck of the draw for him to appear. However, the second house due east from the citadel of the Earth Prince, the merchant "may" just show up during the dawn-sunrise hours. You can get this game here on eBay for anywhere from 99 cents to $5 before shipping. It's well worth that price. I give this game a 7 out of 10.

A good early RPG style game. The graphics are not the best that the SNES was able to achieve (compared to more popular games, such as Chrono Trigger), but were good enough. The gameplay is funner and more interesting than the somewhat bland graphics portend. At the beginning of a new save, different character types with different attributes are allowed for selection. Each has their strong and weak points and, as is the nature of RPG style games, are all able to increase strength, defense, etc. with items and weapons which are found along your journey. One main character is controlled at a time, the rest of the characters carry out predetermined functions specified by the player and may be interchanged with one another as the player's character of choice at any time.
