    Product Information

    BBC drama documentary portraying the events leading up to, and including, the devastating volcanic eruption on the Indonesian island, and its immediate aftermath. The story is told from various viewpoints - a colonial officer, a scientist, a lighthouse keeper and a ship's captain. The volcanic activity in 1883 led to explosions, tsunamis and ash clouds, and left more than 36,000 people dead.

      Excellent Docudrama

      I live in the USA and purchased this DVD from a seller in the UK. I could not watch it on my DVD player because of the Region coding. I knew this when I purchased it, as this DVD is not available in the US. I watched it on my computer and it did not dim my expectations. It is a fantastic enactment of the tragic events of the 1883 eruption that killed over 30,000 people. The acting is excellent, and sensitive. I have shown it to my whole family and everyone raved over not only the horrendous, true story, but the presentation, the special effects and make up are all excellent and believable. This production deserves more international attention. Kudos to Darrell D'Silva (Capt. J.H. Lindemann), Rupert Penry Jones, Olivia Williams.

      O rare find worth paying extra money to have it

      This is a hard to find show. Extremely rare And largely unavailable. I paid a lot because I've been looking for it for about 10 years. Quality was excellent entertainment value is very high and it's historically accurate. Almost worth the money!
