  • Lacking informative and correct information

Informative, yet filled with editing errors and mistaken information. My first glance at the book mentions how the early pickups were made. The writer states all the pickups were wax potted, yet that was done in later productions. The writer goes on to explain the winding count on the bobbins. The information is 100% wrong, Example he states there were 1600 windings on a Stratocaster Pickup. When in fact, there were 6800~7200. I'm sure he had a great relationship with Leo Fender, But his information on construction is truly flawed. The actual history of the FENDER BRAND is excellent and his memories of his great times with Leo is very touching, but he should have researched the construction and mentioned more technical information. But, that's just my take. Bob

  • Inside look at Fender guitar history

Maybe not a comprehensive history of Fender but there are a lot of interesting anecdotes and personal stories about Fender and about the developing electric guitar industry. It is a little disorganized; the main narrative is sometimes interrupted by side stories. Pictures give a more inside look at Fender. Overall a good read.
