About this product

Product Information

Mia Farrow and Dustin Hoffman star in this unconventional romance directed by Peter Yates (BULLITT, BREAKING AWAY). Adapted from Mervyn Jones's novel, JOHN AND MARY centers on a young man and woman who turn an evening in a bar into an evening in bed. They spend the next day alone, each walking the streets of New York as they dissect the events of the previous night. Though they had a connection, can they move past their quirks and relationship histories to see each other again?

  • 1960s take on sex and relationships

I remembered reading a review when this movie came out, sometime in the late 1960s. I was in early high school, and never got to see it, but thought it sounded interesting (i.e., racy). Not long ago, I read a review online and decided to get a copy. I ended up enjoying it very much, both as a time capsule of 1960s ideas about sex and relationships, and as a chance to watch the two principal actors (Dustin Hoffman and Mia Farrow) when they were in their twenties. As for plot, there isn't much. John and Mary meet in a singles bar, spend the night together, and spend the following day getting to know one another. Both come across as relatively normal people surrounded by 1960s caricatures of swinging singles. The movie could have been funny, but wasn't especially...or maybe the humor ...

  • John and Mary

A simple idea of a one night stand well executed. Mia and Dustin are top notch talent. Their desire for independence as well as realizing that you've got to meet that certain someone somewhere, even if not expecting it. The supporting cast of Michael Tolan and Sunny Griffin also are excellent. If you haven't seen it give it a view.
