      I'd forgotten over the years...

I brought this to work as an extra, because you can only fill it 1/3 of the way or it doesn't break the cubes up easily. I went back on eBay and bought a couple of the Rubbermaid ones which are much better. I gave this 4 stars because it will never rust and it does the basic job well. I will say it's MUCH better quality than the ones from yesteryear... they were aluminum. If you are into retro THIS is a great item and you should get at least one! Good price too.

      Husband loves them, I'm unhappy

My husband loves these ice cube trays. They provide both cracked cubes and whole cubes. Approx. 50/50. He loves them because they're stainless and you don't have to twist them like the plastic ones to release the cubes. I wanted to write an honest review, so I tried running warm water over the tray to get whole cubes, I couldn't. Then I proceeded to jiggle the rack and had to use the end of a butter knife to rap the cubes to make them fall out. When I did that the dividers fell off the rack and the entire cube portion fell apart. My husband is a toolmaker and insists he can fix it. I won't ever use these again as I'm probably banned from doing so.

    • Design needs improvement but...

Although the design of these trays needs improvement, it's still better than plastic. I want to purchase an ice cube bin in the future that would match these trays. Note: The main drawback about these stainless steel trays is that they require some water poured on bottom or some slight thawing out to release cubes & the bottom tray warps very easily with pressure of frozen ice. Nonetheless, I still prefer these over plastic trays and I have noticed an improved cube taste.

    • Nothing more than an ice crusher.

I used these back in the late 50's. Just pull the steel lever and all the ice cubes came out WHOLE! No waiting a minute or two, no soaking the bottom with water......just take out of the freezer and pull, and you have all whole ice cubes. Now, I don't know what happened, but even though these trays look like the ones made in the fifties, they sure do NOT work like them. After removing them (several different times) from the freezer and soaking the bottom with water, or letting them "sit" for a few minutes (trying to break them free right away certainly didn't work), no matter how I did it, they simply gave me a tray full of crushed ice! If you want crushed ice, then this product is for you. But, if you want WHOLE ice cubes like me.....then save your money.....those cheap plastic ...

    • Disappointed

We had very high hopes for these ice trays, but were very disappointed in them. Here's why... Three negative points: 1. Hard to pull lever to release the ice 2. Ice cubes crack into little pieces after lever is pulled 3. bottom of tray buldges/expands after first use, causing the tray to "rock" on level surface
