    Does the job for the amateur

    Accurately measures distance and requires very small investment of time to learn how it works. Instructions reasonably clear, though still lacking fine detail; maybe keep-it-simple is the best policy here. For measuring height using trigonometry (you measure base and hypotenuse and it calculates the length of 3rd side) you need a small platform with a level built in so you know your base measurement is proper for a right-sided triangle. Hard to see laser pointer in daylight, which was expected, but works at dusk in places bright during the day.

    Best basic model Laser Measure Tape

    This is a basic model and if you want something simple and easy to use. This is for you. There are other model with more features. But this is good for around the house use, like distance, area, and cubic feet. It has 4-6 different unit of measurement (inches, feet- inches etc.....) and shoots distance up to 165 feet. Its really fun to use and good for the price.

    Bought as an open box item but new never used. Did not come in original packaging but was shipped securely and well protected. Seller represented item truthfully and sold at a very fair price. When I operated the laser measure it works perfectly as expected. No instructions came with it but are readily available online. Shipped quickly and I am very satisfied with this purchase. The Bosch GLM165-40 is an awesome laser measuring tool that is easy to use with great features.

    Bosch GLM 165-40.... is it a keeper?

    Very nice unit. It has a "quality" feel to it. Small size, about the size of a hand-held digital voice recorder. The measurements are almost instant. If you are looking for a quality unit that does basic measurements well for a low price... this might be it. With what I know now, I would buy it again if I were to do it over.
