Der Intel Core i7-980X - 3,33 GHz Six Core (BX80613I7980X) Prozessor verfügt über sechs Kerne. Dieser Intel Core i7 Prozessor hat einen standardisierten Prozessortakt von 3,33 GHz. Dank der Turbo-Boost-Technik lässt sich die Performance für diesen 3,33-GHz-Prozessor während anspruchsvoller und rechenintensiver Anwendungen automatisch steigern. Der Intel 980X verwendet die so genannte Execute-Disable-Bit-Technik, durch die das komplette System vor Angriffen durch Viren und bösartiger Software aus dem Internet geschützt wird. Diese auf Hardware basierende Sicherheitsfunktion minimiert die Wahrscheinlichkeit für zeitaufwändige Serverausfälle und verhindert die Kosten für sonst nötige Wiederherstellungsmaßnahmen. Der Speicher im Intel Core i7 Prozessor hat ein Volumen von bis zu 24 GB und verwendet den Speichertyp DDR3. Zudem kann der Intel 980X im Zusammenspiel mit optional erhältlichen Programmen und der verwendeten Intel 64 Architektur seine Performance optimieren, da das System durch eine Erweiterung des Prozessors sowohl virtuellen als auch physischen Speicher bis zu einem maximalen Volumen von 4 GB adressieren kann. Darüber hinaus unterstützt der 3,33-GHz-Prozessor die Nutzung der erweiterten Intel SpeedStep Technik, sodass leistungsoptimierende Strategien wie zum Beispiel unterschiedliche Wiederherstellungsprogramme, mehrere Taktpartitionierungen und die strikte Separierung zwischen Frequenz- und Spannungsänderungen verwendet werden können. Die Verlustleistung (TDP/ACP) liegt bei diesem Intel Core i7 Prozessor in einem Bereich von 130 Watt. Des Weiteren verwendet das Gerät die Intel Hyper-Threading-Technik, um viele Aufgaben parallel bearbeiten zu können.     A great upgrade for those still stuck on X58 motherboards!

    After having built my gaming cumputer in 2008 little has happened to it other than a few GPU upgrades. i7-920 and 6GB ValueR ram on a somewhat moody Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4 X58 motherboard, currently with an XFX Radeon HD 7870 after a longer Nvidia-streak. Most things were working out, but Star Citizen was a slideshow. At first I looked at LGA1150/2011 upgrades, but it didn't seem like I'd get a significant "bang for the buck" either with going lower-budget 4770K or the considerably more costly 4930K, and getting a decent, preferrably watercoolable, motherboard that fit either. A friend led me to check out what was still available for my current motherboard, and after following some auctions for the once ultra-expensive 980x/990x chips I managed to score one used for the going price a 4770K. ...
