Black Tusq XL will make a cheap guitar sing
I bought the Graphtech Black Tusq XL to replace the stock nut on my Squier Bullet Strat. The nut is very well made, I must say I marveled at the quality of it once I removed it from the package and fiddled around a bit with it. However, beware that replacing the stock nut on the Bullet Strat is quite difficult since it's quite well glued in place. Once the old nut was removed, the Black Tusq required some sanding to shave it off a bit, obviously the neck of the Bullet Strat isn't the same dimensions of the Stratocaster. But the hassle is well worth it, after installing the Black Tusq I had the feeling of having a new guitar. It brought out a clarity, richness and fullness to the sound that was not there before. And it's not like I had old cruddy strings before, mind you... It is well worth ... I bought the Graphtech Black Tusq XL to replace the stock nut on my Squier Bullet Strat. Good to make it fit you nut
I have a strat neck which is very different from normal Squier and Fender Strat. So I could find an exact match to my nut. This one GraphTech, I was able to trim it and made it fit. Once I put it, all was so nice on my guitar, even the look is great. The sound did change for better.

Great Nut Upgrade.
I installed this nut on my Squier Modified 70's Stratocaster and it immediately improved the acoustic quality of the guitar unplugged..Sustain and tremolo improved at least by 90%. After playing for a few hours tuning stability greatly improved..My Strat is a 9.5" radius and had a flat bottomed nut. This nut seemed to be not tall enough but it is cut to less depth so the string height actually comes out perfect! Needed to sand down the width about 0.020 from each side to match width of neck with 800 grit,,super easy job.
