Product Information

Rampart for the Atari Lynx has you defending a castle from waves of attacks, all while trying to capture the surrounding castles in each land. The game is played from a top-down perspective and is divided into three phases: building, cannon and battle. The initial phase involves first choosing a home castle, then watching as a wall automatically surrounds it. The remaining castles can be added to your arsenal once you've built walls around them.<br><br>From this point on, any damage to your walls must be repaired by using Tetrad-shaped pieces within the 26-second time limit. If the gaps are not covered within the allotted time, the game is over. The second aspect of the game is the cannon phase. Once your walls are built and secured, you can position a certain amount of cannons within the castle (the number depends on how many castles you have surrounded).<br><br>After placing the cannons, the battle phase will commence, which involves defending your castle from the attacks of enemy ships. Manipulate a cursor with the pad and press the fire button to launch your cannons, sinking as many ships as you can. After ten seconds of battle, the game will switch to the building phase, and the cycle continues until all ships are defeated.<br><br>The object of the game is to clear all of the levels on the map, which allows you to play on the more challenging Isthmus levels. Once you have survived these two levels, you will need to defend your castle from all sides while on an island! Beat this level and you will be victorious. A second player can also join in the mayhem (with a ComLynx cable), only this time he or she will be able to attack from a nearby castle!

    Rampart

    On any game system RAMPART is one of the best early as well as present day multi player combat war games. Single player use always gets me most upset. The game starts out giving you a choice of where to put your castle. You then pick a spot. Next the game tells you to place your cannons inside the new fortress. At this point skills are helpful. You place your cannons as the clock is ticking a deadly countdown to battle. Finally the battle begins and you move your weapons aiming at the ships at sea who are also bombing your castle. When the game decides time is up you can recon and repair the damage to your castle with ease by using a random set of shapes similar to the great TETris format. If you are not skilled at TETris you will have trouble here. Keep battling though for as time goes on ...

    If you own a Lynx, you MUST own this game!!

    Rampart is my overall reason for owning a Lynx! Yes, its on other systems, but I much prefer the Lynx version. Better graphics than the NES & Master System versions, speech (Unlike the Master System version) and awesome on the go game! I have drained a set of batteries playing this game in one sitting!
