    With a short baseball season during COVID19, what better time to learn about the sport from the very beginning of its history? Ken Burns has done a beautiful job with the narrative and the visual records. Outstanding and wonderful lesson in American history.

    Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns - Nine Inning Boxed set

    This was purchased for my boyfriend's birthday. His mother had passed away a few months ago, and the both of them watched the videos of this film till the tape wore out. (She was incapacitated by stroke, and he cared for her for eight years, they were very close.) He'd mentioned several times that he wanted to get this set on DVD, and so on his birthday, I found this set and bought it for him. I knew that he would be thrilled to receive this set, but I was unprepared for his reaction upon opening his gift. He began crying, and explained to me how much this film meant to him and to his mother. He started watching them right away, and had gone through the entire 23 hours of film in a little over a week. I have watched a bit of these with him, and I find Ken Burn's work to be very ...

    If you are a baseball fan and have an extra hundred bucks, buy this DVD set! Taking the history of the National Pastime from the 1800s and its early beginnings to the 1990s, Burns presents an outstanding perspective of baseball. Broken into nine "innings", each disc contains about two hours of historical pictures, commentary and period music. The depth of information and the passion of the presentation will alternatively make you cheer and then cry. Interviews with sports writers and broadcasters give an insider view, as well. Former players are also effectively used to underscore pertinent points, such as Buck O'Neil on race and Curt Flood on free agency.     How can a true baseball fan live without this????

    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! If you like/love baseball history, you will be amazed at the information gathered in the DVD set. I am into vinatge baseball cards and use this collection for reference from time to time just to get a look back at the player or the history behind certain players, such as the 1919 Black Sox scandal, which is covered very well in this set. It (the set) has also influenced me to buy cards of certain players with a story behind their names. BUY THIS DVD COLLECTION!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL BE PLEASED!!!!
