About this product

Product Information

"Karon knits Mitford's small-town characters and multiple story lines into a cozy sweater of a book.... Somewhere Safe hits the sweet spot at the intersection of your heart and your funny bone. 4/4 stars"-- USA Today "Welcome home, Mitford fans...to Karon's gift for illuminating the struggles that creep into everyday lives--along with a vividly imagined world."-- People "The faster and more impersonal the world becomes, the more we need...Mitford."-- Cleveland Plain Dealer After five hectic years of retirement from Lord's Chapel, Father Tim Kavanagh returns with his wife, Cynthia, from a so-called pleasure trip to the land of his Irish ancestors. While glad to be at home in Mitford, something is definitely missing: a pulpit. But when he's offered one, he decides he doesn't want it. Maybe he's lost his passion. His adopted son, Dooley, wrestles with his own passion--for the beautiful and gifted Lace Turner, and his vision to become a successful country vet. Dooley's brother, Sammy, still enraged by his mother's abandonment, destroys one of Father Tim's prized possessions. And Hope Murphy, owner of Happy Endings bookstore, struggles with the potential loss of her unborn child and her hard-won business. All this as Wanda's Feel Good Caf opens, a romance catches fire through an Internet word game, their former mayor hatches a reelection campaign to throw the bums out, and the weekly Muse poses a probing inquiry: Does Mitford still take care of its own? Millions of fans will applaud the chance to spend time, once more, in the often comic and utterly human presence of Jan Karon's characters. Indeed, they have never been more sympathetic, bighearted, and engaging.

The ordering process was easy and fast and the price was good. I did not have to wait long for delivery; the book was well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. It was listed on the website as "very good" but it actually looked brand new. All in all, very pleased with the entire experience and will definitely use ebay again.

Excellent Book -- A Real Page Turner

For the Jan Karon reader, I would highly recommend this book. This book has all the old favorite characters seen in the prior books but with a new flavor to the book. I have greatly enjoyed the book and have found it hard to put down. I would highly recommend it; I don't think you will regret it.

  • Wonderful read, just wonderful/get the series you won't be sorry 100% great

Was so happy to see another book out on the Mitford series. Such uplifting reading I find myself laughing at loud reading this series. If a writer can do that it is amazing. Perhaps because I came from a little patch town where everyone knew everyone. Jan Karon Is 1 of the best writers & her books are for all ages. I have put 3 sets together for friends who I know like to read & they loved them. Now I am working on 4th set for a special friend who can only read large print. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good read, an uplifting read about a small town somewhere in NC. Loaded w/laughter, & everyday life in a small town that takes care of it's own. I've been reading since a teen & have my own library & I am honored to add Jan Karon's books to my library & so happy to ...

  • Blessed by the endless blossoming of the Mitford family! Much growth here.

Always grateful that Jan Karon makes the effort to get another Father Tim book out. Mitford is firmly in the new century now and the characters are all maturing into better people. There is plenty of subplot and humor interjected throughout but the book would be a little difficult for anyone unfamiliar with the preceding books as it's very much an ongoing story. As such it is as good as the rest and very much welcomed from the author of a very creative series.

  • Drew me in as if I were metal to a magnet. Isn't that what we all long for, to be somewhere safe with somebody good?

I am in the process of reading the entire Mitford series & haven't gotten to this one yet. Just wanted to make sure I already had it on hand for when I do! I find the entire series comforting & compelling, as Jan Karon so artfully delivers.
