    Perfect Recording Hardware

This is absolutely my favorite piece of musical equipment I own. It is versatile, very easy to use, and very high quality. It is designed extremely well, and produces a sound that is undisturbed and clear. It makes it possibly to record analog instruments in a hands-on and tactical way. I love the DP-008, it is the sun of my studio's planetary system.

  • Great portable studio, many functionalities, great quality and good price!

I bought the Tascam DP-008 as a portable recording device that I could use to record all the parts for my songs at home but also layer guitar tracks on the fly. I love the fact that it is so easy to layer many guitar tracks and then bounce them all onto one (or two tracks for stereo output), and then you can record other instruments onto the remaining 7 (or 6) tracks. It is also extremely easy to use, easy to save tracks and the sound quality is great. The built in mics work nicely too. I find that the reverb sounds great on the Tascam, and adjusting reverb on each track separately on such a small device is perfect for my needs. Finally, the pan feature is simple to use and very effective. Comparing to others, I would say that this is the best portable recording device around, as it is so ...

  • A great tool for home recording.

I bought this to record backing tracks for my mandolin to use during worship in church. It's been great! Using this is excellent way to improve my performance, timing and technique. Typically I record a rhythm track with my 6 string acoustic guitar, a second track with my electric, a third with mandolin, and a fourth with my twelve string, depending on the tune. That leaves me several empty tracks for additional effects or instruments, or vocals. On Sundays, I plug it into the audio system for playback. The 008 recorder has reverb only, whereas the newer dp-008ex has additional effects. You can mix down the tracks any way you like and make a final two track stereo version. I recommend purchasing the power pack rather than using batteries, which wear out quickly. Amazingly, this unit ...

  • Mini and Mighty Recorder for the Amateur Musician Who Doesn't Want to Mess with Computers

I dabble in recording myself playing instruments. Having this is way more simple than trying to figure out how to work music recording software on the computer. (the numerous features overwhelm me). It's not made to edit music like a DAW though. Although you can shift tracks around in the mix, it's a bit cumbersome to do so. I like this though because it encourages me to record the whole track through non-stop perfectly. The internal mics sound pretty nice too. Real handy having the volume, pan, and reverb effects controlled individually for each track with the little knobs.

  • Great 8-track versatility, clean, clear digital sound.

I owned a Tascam Porta-1-Studio years ago (I still have it). I purchased the DP-008 because of it's 8-track digital versatility. It's small, easy to use and it has great clean, clear digital sound. It has onboard effects and EQ. You can download one or more tracks into WAV format and download to your computer. The only downside I've encountered was that it has only two inputs. So, if you want to record your band or more than two instruments at one time, you'll need some sort of mixer. Overall I would recommend it to any musician interested in making those musical ideas a reality.
