Excellent History U.S. 45th Infantry Division
As an Oklahoman I was looking for a good history of the 45th Infantry Division. I found it. From the early days of how the 45th was formed, to the invasion of Sicily, to the opening of Dachau the events are detailed the good, the bad, and the miserable. The author does an excellent job of intertwining first person interviews with the history being revealed. Excellent maps accompany invasions and battles as well as pictures of significant people and events. All one needs to know to understand why there was heavy casualties. More in common with World War One than World War Two.
This is how Military History should be written. Clear narrative with details that explain the decisions made on both sides during the battle. The included maps are some of the best I have seen to illustrate how the terrain shaped the fighting. This book can be useful to a student as well as a professional.

Note that this is the 1998 edition of the book in softback (not a pocket book). Absolutely fascinating book about the U.S. 45th Infantry Division at Anzio. Very detailed with extensive primary sourced material. If you're researching history, genealogy, or just want to learn something this book offers it. I gave a copy to my uncle who was with the 45th at Anzio and he noted that it was quite accurate. Good photos, just wish there were more! This book is a must for the library of the historian or militaria collector.Note that this is the 1998 edition of the book in softback (not a pocket book).
