Gunfighter Ballads are NOT modern Country songs
Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs and More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs by Marty Robbins brings the OLD WEST back to life. These songs are a glimpse into the joys and sorrows of cowboys, as expressed through music. Some are traditional (Streets of Laredo), some are more modern classics (Cool Water), and some became classics because of Marty Robbins (El Paso, Big Iron, San Angelo). Marty Robins does a superb rendition of each track on both these albums. I must be up front and admit I bought the original albums (yes, vinyl LP's) (Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, 1959, More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs ,1960 or '61). I loved them then, and time has not diminished the sense of kinship I feel with the history of our great country when I listen to these ballads. ... Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs and More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs by Marty Robbins brings the OLD WEST back to life. Marty Robins conveys the deep connection that cowboys of that period felt for the land. It might not be an easy lifestyle (in fact most often, very difficult), but it was simple, and loved by many. Other songs reveal the pain of betrayed love ("They're Hanging Me Tonight", "I"ve Got No Use For The Women", "She Was Young and She Was Pretty"), or even the deepness of love that risks death ("El Paso", "San Angelo"). But probably my favorites are the ones that show the great character of the old cowboys. The men who would give their very life for the cause or the moral decision ("Big Iron", "Utah Carol", "Little Joe the Wrangler")... these stories demonstrate the strength of moral fiber and independence that made the U.S. the country which still values these traits. If you love our American history and the old West, this is a "Must Buy"!

Marty Robbins Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs
Marty Robbins 1959 classic album with the hit songs Big Iron and El Paso. Considered Country genre, these songs received amazing recognition and radio play for decades. Great vocals and talent that cross over to appeal to music fans of later generations. Hear to believe!

Great CD have been looking for this for ages
I love Marty Robbins and My vinle record had gotten scratched years ago and I though these great songs were gone forever. I found this CD and am very happy with it. It sounds better than the orignal record I bought as a teenager. Thanks again. I'll be looking for more CD's
