When I first the cover for this album back in the 80"s, at Camelot Music, I said "Wow, this cover painting looks just like what driving on acid looks like!" Now that I finally have listened to it, I can say that it would have played well during my frequent midnight acid escapades. There are few keyboard parts than say, Agents of Fortune, Cultasaurus Erectus, or Fire of Unknown Origin, Bu.t Take me Away, Veins, and Summer of California are great BOC pieces. I highly recommend this for all lovers of creepy, sci-fi, progressive rock.. Progressive for the band and the time
The Revolution By Night demonstrates Blue Oyster Cult's ability to please different tastes. There's challenge for players with the leader, "Take Me Away," and with "Dragon Lady," yet finds tranquility, and at times utter despair with tracks like "Shooting Shark," an excellent, walky bass-and-synth sounding number (co-written with Patti Smith) and "Light Years Of Love," a stellar sort of out-of-this-world cut of hope that coolly winds the album up. Other stuff sounds, now in '08, like so much commercial-pop overkill. "Eyes On Fire" could be a beer commercial, but bear in mind, this album was released in 1983, and it was the first studio stuff after "Fire Of Unknown Origin," where "Burnin' For You" scored points, so they were surely hoping for big success with this one, and the sound ...
