Not the book but not, not the book.
Fugitive Pieces the book is a masterpiece of literature. I am not articulate enough to explain why. I anticipated the arrival of the film (it seemed to take years and has yet to be released in the US) with certainty it would be at best, blah. How would they translate a largely internal monologue and much breathtaking poetry into color and conversation? They achieved it in the best and probably only way possible. Visually it mirrors the book to perfection. The characters look exactly as I imagined them. In that alone I felt immediately connected and relieved. There are changes in plot but the deeply buried heart of the story has remained intact. There are a couple of changes that I loved more than Ann Michaels' version. It must be seen again with all the commentary, both director and Ms. ... Fugitive Pieces the book is a masterpiece of literature. I am not articulate enough to explain why. This movie was very entertaining.
This was a touching movie. We enjoyed it very much and will probably watch it again. The story was touching with a strong message about survival and personal growth.
