About this product

Product Information

Based on Jean Genet's novel, QUERELLE marked the end of the controversial directorial career of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Brimming with often graphic gay imagery and themes, it tells the story of Querelle (Brad Davis, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS), a sexually swaggering sailor and drug trafficker on a pass in the port of Brest in pursuit of sexual gratification. In a brothel, he is reunited with his brother Robert and makes the acquaintance of Robert's lover Lysiane (Jeanne Moreau) and her brooding husband Nono. Querelle later mysteriously murders another man, pinning the blame on known homosexual Gil. But when Querelle finds himself in a sexual relationship with Gil, his dangerous circumstance becomes even more complicated. Critically savaged (and possibly misunderstood) upon its 1983 release, Fassbinder's swan song offers a uniquely surreal and dreamlike tone, offering a wealth of fascinating imagery to the adventurous viewer.

    SUPER SEXY, SENSUAL, HOT SEX!

    Provocative, sexy, sultry. This is Brad Davis like you've never seen him before in his best role. A well-acted drama with a superb cast set in a distant harbor which enters into a very surreal style. Very engulfing and entertaining. More upbeat than Midnight Express and never depressing. A true gem that is almost impossible to find on region 1. Get it if available.

    Genet + Fassbinder = Contemplative Beauty

    To my mind, "Querelle" is one of Fassbinder's finest projects. With this film he further refines the signature style that he developed a few years previous with films he made between 1979 and 1982 that feature female central characters, such as "The Marriage of Maria Braun." While "Querelle" likewise evokes a stage-like atmosphere, the interior shots go a step further by toying with realism even as they stop just short of the surreal. Building on the original work by Jean Genet, the film visually creates an alluring but also ominous environment. It is a tense stopover in an unfamiliar port where passions cannot be restrained.     A MUST For Brad Davis Fans

    This movie is a must for Brad Davis fans. If you liked him in Midnight Express you will love him in this. The movie is filmed like a play. A very strange and twisted tale of a guy who has everything and kills it. Very sexual in a bizzar way. As I say, very twisted for the viewers that like that sort of thing. I do.

    Long live Brad Davis...

    I love Brad Davis movies. This one is kind of cheesey, but still enjoyable to watch. I would also recommend Midnight Express based on a true story and starring Brad Davis.
