    Second chance and still not overly Impressed.

    I bought a Caviar Green back in 2009 (500GB, 7200RPM, SATA) and its speeds never amazed me. I bought these drives for the cheap $/GB but I'm not totally sold. The drives are slower than other Western Digital Drives (Such as Caviar Blue) and they tend to make more noise. They seem to have fast enough read/write speeds for the media computers that I currently use them on but I would not recommend these drives for a power user or for copying large files back and forth.

    WD Caviar Green SATA Hard Drive

    I needed another HD for a backup scenario in our servers. When I saw the Green label I was interested in how it could be green. Turns out it operates at a much lower temp than a standard hard drive for about the same price and uses less power. Anything that helps reduce the temp in the server room is a benefit in my opinion. So far I like it very much. I installed it as an exterior mount in a HD enclosure. Always cool to the touch.

    Western Digital has their own color system, as a green label goes, it would be best for external hard drive enclosures.

    low price, stable, and does what it's advertised to do. can't ask for more from a hard drive.
