Overall great value to get started into extended range instruments, highly recommend!

Super fast thin neck and typical Ibanez build quality, the tuners and nut are a bit flimsy. Fretwork is smooth and only minimal fret buzzing around the nut. Pickups sound full and can get boomy on the low end. Put thicker gauge strings on this as soon as possible. The Ernie Ball slinky 8 set works well!

  • Unique looking, comfortable to play

Ibanez makes quality guitars. I was looking for a multi-scale fan-fret guitar for a decent price and this fit the bill. The neck is huge yet very playable. The range is excellent if you are looking for something that will challenge you musically. Seven strings adds a new dimension to your playing. It gives you greater range and makes you think out of the 6-string box. This Ibanez does that perfectly. The body is very comfortable. I like the EMG pickups but they are active which means you need to use a battery and always unplug the guitar after playing. The fanned frets are easy to get accustomed to. A great guitar for your collection!

  • Excellent build quality, poor setup

The neck and body are the best parts of the guitar by a large margin. The bridge could stand to be set a few mms further back on the body than it is, as the placement on my particular guitar has caused intonation issues on the F# and low B string. The intonation is fixable with a little elbow grease and ingenuity. The factory action height is a little high, which requires some careful tinkering with the truss rod and saddle height to get comfortable. Pickups are muddy, but considering the price point, it's expected. All-in-all, a great guitar for the price, but expect to put in a little work to get it playing to your liking.

  • Great for getting into the 8 string world

The RG8 plays awesome. The neck is wide but even with medium-sized hands it remains playable and comfortable. The longer scale length does take some getting used to as it makes the frets wider which is especially noticeable in the lower frets (5th and below). The guitar is solid and stable: it stays in tune well and it's super easy to setup with the quick access truss rod cover and simple bridge design. Overall it's a simple recipe that's well executed. There is very little to go wrong and nothing I could think of that I would want from it. Some people praise the locking nut system that higher-end guitars have but for me it's The only negative point I can think of are the pickups. Their output is very low and they do not provide the tight bottom end that is required for an 8 string to ...

  • Very solid guitar

I wasn't sure what to expect, this was my first 8 string but I've always been impressed with even the beginner level Ibanez guitars and this instrument was no different. I was surprised by the weight & solid feel of the guitar because I was expecting something lighter. The neck was also a pleasant surprise, the wide but thin design allows for very easy maneuvering over the fretboard. The sound is clean, rich and full with lots of low end which is exactly why I wanted the extra low strings. Pots are clean when operated and the tuners are smooth and tight. All in all I really love this guitar and was very impressed with the quality.
