A fairly good acting job of a lowlife family in New Orleans

Despite having known about this movie for over 60 years I had never seen it. Curiosity made my wife & I watch it. Brando was brooding, mean, loud & destructive with many props in the low end apartment. He, his wife plus sister in law Leigh were tough to watch even though no real violence happened. It was pretty depressing.

  • Streetcar

the movie is one of the greatest made in 1951, but the quality of the DVD was too poor, the sound wasn't clear. i have donated it.

  • One of the classics

I am a huge Vivien Leigh fan. In this movie she plays Blanche Dubois, a woman with mental illness who has come to stay with her married sister, Stella. The movie covers life hardships & mental illness in a day when a husband could rule & did. This is no Ozzie & Harriet. It has more than it's fair share of dysfunction. It is true to a time when life was hard & women were dependant. The players are the same actors who played Streetcar on Broadway, minus Vivien Leigh who replaced Jessica Tandy, the original Blanche Dubois. Karl Malden, Brando & Kim Hunter were on Broadway for the original play. Highly recommend this movie. It is one of the classics.

  • Great classic

Great classic film! Marlon Brando is the man. Vivian Leigh is great. Only wish it was in color instead of black and white.
