About this product

Product Information

Players stake claim to one of the greatest empires Earth has ever known in this third PC strategy game from The Creative Assembly. After winning critical success with its Shogun: Total War and mainstream popularity with its Medieval: Total War, the developer visits the age of Caesar with this third entry in its cross-over strategy series. Choosing to lead Rome, Carthage, Gaul, Macedon, Germania, or Britannia, gamers set out to conquer the world as it was in the early centuries of the Common Era.

While holding true to the basic "turn-based empire-building, real-time combat" formula of earlier games, Rome: Total War offers a strategy map in full 3D, which includes rivers, trade routes, mountains, other natural, and artificial features. When it's time to go to war, the new game engine allows for bigger, more detailed battles, featuring as many as 10,000 3D units in a single conflict. Other additions include the chance to command Scythian chariots, Roman war dogs, and -- of course -- Hannibal's elephants.

  • Possibly the best historical war strategy game yet.

This is a great war strategy game. Once you get started you won't want to stop untill the entire ancient world is conquered. Many unit types to recruit including shock, spear(phalanx), cavalry and artillery. Zoom from birds eye angle right down to watch the man to man fighting. This game was used on a History channel show "Decisive Battles". The game has 2 modes of play. One is the diplomatic map where you work your diplomatic decisions and move your armies around the world map. The second is when 2 opposing armies meet and you zoom in to command the units around the battlefield. Highly recommended for the strategy gamer.

Had to install an automatic update to allow the game to resume from pause mode after a saved game load. • This game is awesome

This game is so good, just buy it, you won't be sorry. It is fun as a grand strategy game but the real fun (and challenge) comes when you have an army that you can't afford to lose come up against an army that you think will destroy it. You have to step in and command it yourself. This is the only rts where strategy actually matters. It's not "whoever has the most tanks wins" this one you can actually win if you have less guys just by the strategy you use. The music and sound effects make the game intense. You just have to experience it. There is such a variety of units. They've got every historical unit, the Greek Phalanx, axemen, elephant riders, Roman legions, cavalry. It is so great, just try it out.

  • Great game.

Rome: Total war is a great game. There are many great things about the game, and a few irritants. First the pros. The graphics are great, especially for a game that was made in '05 (or '06, can't remember). I built a new pc with a radeon hd 4850 graphics card, and can easily have all the details maxed out and it looks great. Second is the music. The music soundtrack is large, with a different track for each situation you might be in. Last big pro about this game is the flexibility with the playing modes. I can play in my story mode, which in itself you can play as several different families. Or, I can play a quick battle if I need to jet. Now for the cons... The biggest complaint is the controls. Yes I know you can switch the keyboard controls in the options, but I still the think the ...

  • Rome Total War

This interactive game is still on the leading edge of action games even though it is over 5 years on the market. Updates to keep up the interest are still available so it is a good program. Game can be played for all out speed or step back and plan strategy. Realistic and fun for all. Got my grandson interested in it so I think the multiplayer feature is going to be in my future!! Highly recommended. Contains a history lesson that is fun to absorb!!
