Drums Along the Mohawk movie review

Drums Along the Mohawk is a pretty good movie, which is roughly based on some truths. A young family move to the Herkimer county area in Upstate New York after just getting married. The time period is during the revolutionary war and they become involved in the battles that took place in the area. This area was outside of where the bulk of the revolutionary war battles took place, so many of the battles involved Indian attacks. I enjoyed the movie, because I like stories about the revolutionary time period and this one takes place somewhat away from the major battles. Just a tale about what it was like for a family to get started in a period when the country was just getting started.

Cut & dried portrayal of struggle to survive on NY’s western frontier during French & Indian War

Another old time “Cowboys & Indians” drama only this time it is farmers on the western NY frontier. Cut & dried portrayal of the struggle to survive during the French & Indian War. Lifeless acting by the male lead, Henry Fonda, but supporting cast “saves the day”. Doesn’t “hold a candle” to “The Last of the Mohicans” movie which so richly depicts same era & setting. BUT does provide an interesting study of differences in movie-making between the 1939 and 1992 productions.
