About this product

Product Information

In CURRENCY WARS, James Rickards explains how the worldwide currency war, already underway, will soon affect everyone. The debasement of the dollar, bailouts in Greece and Ireland and Chinese currency manipulation are treated as indicative of a new and destructive threat, which could lead to a crisis worse than the panic of 2008.

Reviews
"A literate financier with a global view." - Barron's "Jim Rickards highlights dangerous dynamics between national security and the international financial markets. What we assumed was firm ground under our feet is more like the narrowing point of a precipice. Our politicians, national security experts, and financial markets, each chasing carrots dangling in front of them, fail to see that they are leading America right off the edge." -Charles A. Duelfer, former special advisor to the director of the CIA, author of Hide and Seek: The Search for Truth in Iraq "Put on your flak vest and helmet and enter the dangerous battlefield of global finance. Jim Rickards takes you through a captivating roller- coaster ride-the past, the present, and a look at the problematical future of our ongoing currency wars." -Rear Admiral (Ret.) Stephen H. Baker, chief of staff, Fifth Fleet; recipient Distinguished Service Medal "The leading edge of tomorrow's warfare is economic, and we are being probed daily by those who would do us grave harm. . . . Fortunately, we are developing means of detection and a small cadre who understands that the economy intersects national security at the ground zero of modern warfare. Currency Wars provides the best introduction to how it has occurred in the past, how it is occurring today, and how we may prepare ourselves to prevent it from happening tomorrow." -Brigadier General (Ret.) Joseph L. Shaefer, U.S. Air Force Intelligence Crisis Action Team "A captivating, articulate, and thoughtful account of failed attempts by governments to create wealth by debasing their currencies. Currency Wars should be required reading for all policy makers, MBA students, and anyone concerned about the long-term stability and prosperity of Western democracies." -Sorin Sorescu, professor of finance, Texas A&M University, Put on your flak vest and helmet and enter the dangerous battlefield of global finance. Though I was tempted at first to dismiss him as alarmist, his intelligent reasoning soon convinced me that we have more to fear than fear itself. Part history, part primer and analysis, the text covers topics ranging from the "misuse of economics" to complexity theory. The pieces, although disparate, fit together snugly, as in one of those mystery jigsaw puzzles that come with clues in lieu of cover art. The picture that emerges is dark yet comprehensive and satisfying." -Bloomberg Businessweek   "Unsettling . . . fascinating . . . a thorough analysis of how nations have manipulated their currencies . . . with disastrous consequences." -Fort Worth Star-Telegram   "Buy Currency Wars if you want to learn the history and language of the global currency markets and the political economy which they support." -Chris Whalen, Ritholtz.com   "Jim Rickards highlights dangerous dynamics between national security and the international financial markets. As a national security issue, he tells a fascinating story of his involvement with the Pentagon and other agencies in designing and participating in a war game using currencies and capital markets, instead of ships and planes, to gain early warning of attacks on the U.S. dollar. The author concludes that "mainstream economists and central bankers alike are well aware of dollar weakness and the risks to international monetary stability from the new currency wars." He sees four prospects for the dollar-multiple reserve currencies, special drawing rights, gold, and chaos. Rickards'' ideas are controversial and will attract support and criticism across many disciplines. Nevertheless, he presents a compelling case for his views and offers thought-provoking information for library patrons. • If you are tired of being an automaton, read Jim Rickards and get educated.

I've followed Jim for some time now. He initially took a lot of heat for having done consulting work for the C.I.A. Many called him a SPOOK. The reality seems far different. It's Jims incredible economic intellect that makes him a sought after consultant. He uses a variety of equations not the norm in the realm of PHD economists of the day. The problem for them? He gets it right. Further, unlike PHD economists that use stealthy slang to hide reality in plain site; Jim is easy to understand. His speech is eloquent, direct, and supported by facts. It's the kind of in your face reality that PHD (Keynesian) Economists hate. He's also very much a realist and is well grounded. With Economics such a vitally important educational necessity one might wonder why it isn't taught in public school? ...

  • None dare call it treason.

Mr. Rickards has given us a easy to understand account of what has happened in the history of the paper money and how each country has printed it to satisfy the desires of their citizens, to the point it is valueless, which leads to actual war between nations over commodities. It is what happens when people vote for a living instead of work for a living. It always ends in war.
