Synopsis
"I had wanted to wrap this book up in a neat little package. I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned the hard way that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end." The world fondly remembers the many faces of Gilda Radner: the adamant but misinformed Emily Litella; the hyperkinetic Girl Scout Judy Miller; the irrepressibly nerdy Lisa Loopner; the gross-out queen of local network news, Rosanne Rosannadanna. A supremely funny performer, Gilda lost a long and painful struggle in May 1989 to "the most unfunny thing in the world"--cancer. But the face she showed the world during this dark time was one of great courage and hope. It's Always Something is the story of her struggle told in Gilda's own remarkable words--a personal chronicle of strength and indomitable spirit and love undiminished by the cruel ravages of disease. This is Gilda, with whom we laughed on Saturday Night Live: warm, big-hearted, outrageous, and real. This is Gilda's last gift to us: the magnificent final performance of an incomparable entertainer whose life, though tragically brief, enriched our own lives beyond measure.

About Gilda Radner's brave spirit as she succumbed to ovarian cancer.

I was an ardent Gilda Radner fan throughout her career on SNL. This autobiographical book by Gilda Radner summed up the essence & strength of her character as she dealt with her losing battle with ovarian cancer. A wonderful book at a great price!

  • Gilda Radner always made me smile!

Gilda Radner,(for those of you who have been living in quicksand.) was one of the original members of Saturday Night Live. A brilliant writer and improvisationalist; she worked on SNL for 5 years and made several movies, appeared on Broadway in her own one-woman show, won an Emmy and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was all set to write a book of her life experiences, poetry and other fun stuff, when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The theme of the book quickly changed. Ultimately, Gilda died on May 20th, 1989. Her husband, Gene Wilder, was at her side. This is a great book about a great woman, who was truly taken too soon. I know that is said of most celebrities who die, but it truly holds for Gilda. Like, John Lennon and John Belushi, it boggles the mind what ...

  • Love this book!

This is the 3rd time I've read this book and I'm so happy to have a hardback copy now. Gilda Radner takes you through the story of her diagnosis of cancer and her fight during the process. She also gives you a first hand account of her life with Gene Wilder, how they met, etc. written in a way that you feel what she felt. She was a comedienne and tried to find humor in even the most horrid of situations. I have praised this book for years and will continue to pass it along to friends to share Gilda's story.

  • Highly Recommended

The book written by Gilda Radner was very easy to read. She was very honest and straight forward. There were many events in her life that I was surprised to learn about. When I was a Senior in HS I discovered Gene Wilder, so it was easy for me to believe she fell head over heels for him. Our Bookclub has a theme this year of Biographies/Memoirs. I picked "It's Always Something" because of Gilda's connections to Detroit and New York. The book did not disappoint.

  • Excellent Book!

I purchased this book because I had a copy of it years ago and loaned it to someone who did not return it. When my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer I looked for the book and found it on E-bay. This is a wonderful book. Gilda Radner faced her illness with humor, but at the same time talked about the ups and downs of her cancer and treatments. It was also amazing to see how treatments have changed from back then until now. I see this book as a book of sadness but one of hope.
