BITTEN - The first in the Otherworld Series
This novel is the first in Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series about supernatural creatures, and concentrates on werewolves, highlighting the character Elena Michaels. Elena was not born a werewolf but became one after being bitten by boyfriend Clayton. She is the only female werewolf, thus an object of intense interest within the werewolf community, where she is subject to Jeremy, the Pack Alpha and Clayton's foster father. Elena is very much a modern woman, with a career as a Toronto based journalist. The plot goes into the decision she must make, to try and live undetected in the mainstream world with a human partner, or live primarily in the isolated pack community. Her decision is shaped by dangers to the Pack from outsiders; her ambivalence is due to the fact that she did not ... However, the tenth book in the series, MEN OF THE OTHERWORLD, deals with Clayton's introduction to werewolf society, bookended by two stories about Jeremy, the Pack Alpha, and his origins. MEN... is engrossing and recommended as a read before starting the Otherworld series with BITTEN, in order to fully understand the werewolf society created by the author. BITTEN is highly enjoyable fiction, with the author creating a plausible alternate world. The romantic aspects are believable and not sappy, and the heroine is a thoughtful role model, not straying from tough decisions and actions.

My husband bought me these paperbacks for CHristmas, he took a chance and boy am I glad he did. AS a lover of Anne Rice and Dean Koontz, this is like a whole new wonderful world. After finishing the first three in three days, I decided I must have them all in hardback...to add to my hardback only book collection. I never imagined a story about werewolves could draw me in, I mean really what do they do...become big dogs and bark?? But Kelley Armstrong writes a descriptive and engaging story, not only of the werewolves, but equally for the witches, half demons, and so on. She has created this world I can truely imagine excists, should I say this world and all the afterworlds as well. If you love Anne Rice(but are getting a little tired of the preaching) and things occult, give this one ... New look on old themes
Great book about supernatural. Found the plot fast paced with intresting characters & places. You aren't left wondering about what is going on & it is easy to follow. A definite page turner. Fans of Laurell K Hamilton, Kim Harrison & the like are sure to enjoy this brilliant author.
