ALL the KEOI GAMES are Amazing! Immersive, terribly tough and Mentally Challenging! This game like all Koei Games are beyond any of the simple games!
Not only are Koei Games beyond difficult to win quickly....they are EXTREMELY HISTORICALLY Accurate! Play PTO:Pacific Theater of Operations and ALL the Ships are historically accurate the Generals and accurate and the simulated Battle Techniques are Exact duplicates of how it should work with a Real Navy Admiral!

The First Romance - A CLASSIC
Koei's first Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a game that is still enjoyable to play even today. I would imagine that most veteran gamers of the series have moved on from ROTK 1. But lets face it: Sometimes LESS IS MORE. ROTK 1 has so fewer options than most of the next installments but it is obviously an EXCELLENT INTRO for young gamers who are just starting this saga. There are 58 states(more states than any other Romance) to conquer to win the game. The are no duels, battery rams, sieges or tribal invasions. The ultimate strategy to this game I believe is the fact that you only get only ONE command per STATE. So you could have 20 officers in Luo Yang but you only get 1 command to use there so you must not waste any turns. This game actually is alot more BARBARIC than the ... Officers MUST BE PAID or they will soon quit and it can be very risky to recruit or conspire with generals from other states. Subsequently, this game can feature alot of executions. There is slight verbal commication between officers but there is no real bonding or friendships that are established. When you obtain an ADVISOR is when you will get the most feedback. There are only 5 scenarios and you can't create any new officers. You have to be a ruler and you must take all 58 states to win. Despite all these limitations, ROTK 1 is still addictive and fun. It features some nice background music and it will not be overly difficult for the veteran players. It certainly is a nice trip back to the old school gaming of the series and newcomers will find it challenging while serving as a superb beginners guide as to how to win in future installments. Of the eleven installments, I personally would rank this very first Romance in the TOP 5 or 6.

If you want to play an old skool game that will keep you enthralled for hours this is your title. Many different play styles and commands. Easy to use interface. Gain control of all of China and study history at the same time. I played this game for hours on end when I was a kid and now I can as an adult. LOL, Risk lovers put your old system to use and play this game. Master Cao Cao has died!!! Love it.
