  • A Must for Translation Students and Poetry Lovers

    I had not finished the preface of this book before I had to buy a copy for my daughter, at the time a senior in college. Just taking in the questions the two translators had to face, in tackling these poems in German for English readers, was a revelation. The translations themselves, while I can't judge them in light of the German, are arresting poems that, taken together, do give me a feel for Celan's style and handling of theme in the originals. Enthusiastic recommendation.
