About this product

Product Information

Here is an unforgettable, graphic account of the final days in the F hrer's headquarters, deep under the shattered city of Berlin as World War II in Europe drew to a close. From James P. O'Donnell's interviews with fifty eyewitnesses to the madness and carnage--everyone from Albert Speer to generals, staff officers, doctors, Hitler's personal pilot, telephone operators, and secretaries--emerges an account that historian Theodore H. White has hailed as "superb . . . quite simply the most accurate and terrifying account of the nightmare and its end I have ever read."

  • Among the best of the best

If you could read only one record of this slice of history, this would be the choice. Journalist by profession, and a distinguished (and fair) one, O'Donnell interviewed dozens of witnesses with great care, attention, and thought. Good detective that he is, he wove the pieces that he gathered together into a highly instructive study that also feels quite holistic in its exploration of just what happened in and around one infamous Berlin bunker, and the wider context that surrounded that. And, gifted writer and storyteller that he was, the author rendered this all in a book that, once you pick it up, you may find very difficult to put down. Two other unique elements O'Donnell brings to this work are that he actually saw the bunker himself within weeks of Hitler's death. And his study of a ...

  • Excellent book!

Very informational with pictures, a diagram of the fuhrer bunker in Berlin and a map of the main escape routes used by the survivors. I didn't realize that Fegelein was married to Eva Braun's sister until I saw the picture presented here.

  • It's a Must Have!

This is my favorite so far. I have read 5 books on Hitler now and this one is a page turner, hard to put down, very well researched and a must have. I highly recommend The Bunker.
