De- Lovely
This is an amazing album, for anyone that has seen the film or not. Great production by Peter Asher. Excellent orchestrations and mixing contemporary singers with Porter standards makes for a great listen. Out of 18 songs the only number that didn't make the grade was "Love for Sale" which dragged a bit. But overall totally recommend this CD.

Anyone with a pulse and affinity to the pop music when music was actually written and musicians actually played, know and appreciate the music, lyrics and sound of the great Cole Porter. But this, the soundtrack to the very well made and enjoyable musical bio film of a few years back, falls short. For one thing, the rousing "Did you Evah!", sung so well by the great Kevin Kline and cast in the movie is not included. Despite the fact that the same contemporary artists who sing in the film are represented here, I find the album a bit of a let down. Perhaps that's because you can focus on them solely and not there appearance in the film. So, maybe I should've bought the DVD instead. Lots of definitions of what we call "American Culture" pop up anywhere the discussion turns to the subject, particularly when it come to music. For this reviewer, the first half of the 20th century was the flower of American culture and Cole Porter's lyrics and music absolutely cannot be left out of the discussion. Porter's work epitomized the times in which he lived. Not only is it fun to listen to-it is a sociology lesson as well. This soundtrack is an essential introduction into Porter's work and his life and times. While many early numbers are basically '30s party music, his attention was turned to the subject of love once he met, and later married, Linda Thomas, a young, beautiful, socially connected divorcee. Then there is the Broadway body of work. This is classic stuff; the stuff ... Awesome...just love, love, love this CD!
I just LOVE this CD. Exceptional composition, singer selection and tempo for each and every song. Every song is fun and compels one to sing along with it. I even sing the songs from memory in my head as I work. So enjoyable that several friends have purchased it after listening to mine. It is a happy selection of songs. Makes me feel zippy and happy. Just into the first song I begin dancing around my house and singing until the last song...then I have to play it over and over. I think this is one FABULOUS CD. I bought a second for my car so I can listen to it and sing along with it while driving. Everyone who has heard it falls instantly in love with it.
