    War & Fary tail

As many have said before, to which I also say. It's an adult type of Fary tail. It deals with war & young girl imagination that takes her on a get away from what's going on around her. Her mother is married & pregnant by a violent man of war, whose main concern is the war & the baby he is expecting. He doesn't care about his wife or the young girl & they know it, but they stay because he provides for them. The young girl do not like him or trust him, she's only concerned about her mother & her baby brother that she is carrying. This is a war movie, but the fairy tale come in by the young girls imagination, which is her way of dealing with her unhappy life.

  • Very surprised

To start off with, the thought of watching (and reading) a movie with subtitles has always put me off a bit. I was one of those who thought that movies are to be enjoyed not be something you have to 'work' at. Anyway, with that said, after reading the many positive reveiews that this movie received, I decided to give it a try. I was actually very surprised. The story was complex yet easy enough to follow. I personally enjoyed following little Ofelia (sp) on her journeys in to the labyrinth, awaiting at what secrets were to be laid before her (us) next. The story at times can be quite gruesome, and maybe just a little unsettling but that also tells the story of plight that she (and many more) went thru. I originally bought this movie on DVD and never watched it (I still have the sealed ...

  • del toro's best work to date

This is one of my favorites movies of all time for the reason that it's a fairy tale set during a spanish civil war. how does one make reasoning of such setting and expect it to work ? well.. guillermo del toro is a genius and this is his best work in my opinion. He combines heavy fantasy themes and puts it in this raw dark place of war and chaos... and balances everything out so well that towards the end of the film, you're completely immersed in this realm of beauty and darkness. The special effects are some of the best to date and I really enjoy how Del toro combines CGI with real life actors and body suits/prosthetics and props. it kinda gives the CGI more authenticity and really elevates the monsters and creations to a more organic level. Honestly, I never really noticed any ...

  • Great flick for those with strong stomachs

Guillermo Del Toro provides yet another great movie! Based in a Civil War-torn Spain, Pan's Labyrinth raisees the standard of foreign & domestic films. Filmed entirely in true Spanish, this wonderful fairy tale explains the story of a young, imaginative girl who has to deal with a sick mother, evil step-father, and eventually a baby brother. Expertly directed with amazing quality and special effects, Pan's Labyrinth is sure to please those looking for a great watch with a deeply involved story. Those that can get squeemish to gore should beware. Brutally violent and graphic, this film might have those with weak stomachs finding themselves looking away at times or covering their eyes. Wonderful score, actors, cinematography and story. I highly recommend Pan's Labyrinth to those willing to ...
