About this product

Product Information

Dario Argento's masterpiece of horror, with its assault of garish colors, booming soundtrack and horrifically dreamlike set pieces, is the cinematic equivalent of an exceptionally scary fun house. It tells the story of Susan (Harper) a young, impressionable American who travels abroad in order to study at a prestigious European ballet academy. From the first day, however, she begins to realize that frightening things are afoot at the hallowed institution. Enduring a rain of maggots, poisoned food and other unpleasant occurrences, she discovers that the school is a secret convening place for an ages-old witches' coven. Cut to various lengths due to violent content, the film's original full running time is 100 minutes.

Pretty good film with an interesting soundtrack

I'm not too big of a fan of the horror genre but I have been curious about watching this film for some time. It turned out to not be as grizzly as I thought it would be. There are a few shocking and disturbing scenes but they are very well executed. The number of people murdered in this film can be counted on one hand. There are some very artistic and memorable scenes which are well worth the price of admission. The drama and suspense is capped with a very unusual and unorthodox musical score, and it works. All in all I really enjoyed the film. Glad to have it in my collection.

  • What's The Big Deal?

I decided to buy SUSPIRIA because I am a big horror movie fan and I have always known about SUSPIRIA's reputation as one of the great horror films. I had seen it once before but did not remember much of this film - that should have been my first clue that this is NOT a great horror film. Other than the first few scenes of a murder, this movie has NOTHING that impresses me... I just don't get it. If you must buy SUSPIRIA, be assured that this is a great looking DVD. If you like SUSPIRIA as a film, you will be satisfied with your purchase of this DVD, but if you want a great horror movie, buy BLACK SUNDAY or THE RE-ANIMATOR. DVD=A MOVIE=D

  • If it is even possible to make a bland slasher flick, this is it.

I bought this thing because it showed up on a search of the scariest movies ever. It fell FAR short of that. In fact, it was rather lame.

  • For true Dario Argento fans only.

I am a big horror fan & I am aware that Dario Argento is looked upon fondly in the horror community. I'm sure that he has fair share of die-hard fans. I'm just not one of them. Italians have different styles of making horror movies then they do in America. If you want to watch his best effort, I would go w/"Phenomena." I own most of his films & they're all very similar. "Phenomena" is a step above the rest. "Inferno" isn't too bad either.

  • Suspiria is probably my favorite horror film ever, so spectacular do give it a go
