About this product

Product Information

Since its beginning in Chicago in the 1940s, Monogram's plastic model kits for cars, ships, aircraft, and spacecraft have captured the imaginations of hobbyists everywhere. The thousands of models Monogram made from 1945 to 1986 are described in detail, shown in over 300 beautiful color photos, and given their collector's value. The popular cars range from classic hot rods and flashy custom cars to NASCAR racers. Interviews were conducted for this book with company executives, designers and model sculptors including Darryl Starbird and Tom Daniel, artists who painted the box art, and salesmen who put the kits on store shelves. Today the kits and finished models are themselves collectibles for beginning and advanced modelers alike.

  • These "Remembering" books are more about "Box Art" then models!

As a life long model builder and enthusiast, I have nothing but the highest respect for all the hard work and research that Mr. Thomas Graham has put into these series of "Remembering Models" Books. I must state with honesty, that I was rather disappointed with the two (2) versions that I purchased. These series of books are much more to do about the box artwork aspect of the hobby rather then the model kits themselves. I thought that I was purchasing a book that contained illustrated photos of cataloged model kits and perhaps even their internal contents but that was not what I found...sadly! Instead, I found nothing more then a coffee table "ART BOOK" with model kit boxes as the subject...YAWN!!! I know that even though the task would be monumental, a true encyclopedia of Monogram and ...

  • Monogram Models by Thomas Graham (2006)

Excellent collectors resource for Monogram model kits. Unlike Graham's REMEMBERING REVELL MODEL KITS, which only covers kits from the 1950s to 70s, the Monogram book covers everything from the 40s to 80s, before the two companies merged. This book has more color picures of assembled kits than the Revell book; on the other hand, Monogram was not noted for its box art, so it does not get as much attention as Revell's.
