    Mac mini 2018 base model (3.6Ghz i3 / 8GB RAM)

    The mac mini represents amazing value. I've been working on them since the pre-unibody models in the mid 00's and they are little work-horses! I got the base unit with only 8GB of RAM for $800 and stuffed it with 32GB, nearly cutting the price of the same machine from apple by half. Doing the RAM replacement yourself is more challenging than on previous models, but still only a 30 minute procedure and well worth it if you're mechanically-minded. Couldn't be happier with my little modded beast.

    A solid computer

    The i3 is a better alternative to the buggy M1. The latter may be faster, but the bugs, freezes, and network issues makes the Intel version more attractive.
