Wheres Waldo

I already owned one Rino 120 and used it primarily during hunting season. I found it so useful that I chose to purchase a second for any first time hunters that are hunting with me; for communication and location. I recommend anyone using this in a large area to also seek out at map from TOPO, which helps when plotting coordinates, terrain navigating or just plotting land marks and good hunting spots.

    Blinks out

Unit works for a little while - could be 20 minutes could be an hour- then screen locks up and a horizontal line appears and unit needs restarted. I have no issue with used products that work, this unit shouldn’t have been resold.

  • Garmin Rino 120

Great little radio/GPS unit for hiking, kayaking, or canoing. The 120 lies right in between the Rino 110, which has limited memory, and the 130, which also has a NOAA weather radio built in and will take external memory. To be really useful, you need at least two RINO radios as you can then transmit and receive GPS coordinates from other RINO radios in order to track the positions of your friends. The mapping function, is rather graphically simple - although additional maps may be purchased from Garmin (memory permitting!), but the GPS is quite easy to use and is WAAS enabled for accuracy. It has an FRS and GRMS radio, but the GRMS requires an FCC license to operate.

  • You can't beat the options for the price.

The unit is a convenient size and has quite a few usable functions for the price. The radio range isn't quite as good as the more expensive units, but is more than adequate for most uses. The GPS functions well except under heavy cover or in buildings. I absolutely love the peer to peer function, it makes finding your partners easy and makes it easy for them to locate you as well - especially useful if your injured or in trouble.

  • Buy the Rino, just do it

I now have three. I bought my first a couple years ago (rino 130)after getting split up from the group on sleds. I got stuck and it took me over an hour to get out by myself. this I know was not suposed to happen but it did. you never leave your group but if you saw the snow I found you would understand.... Now I never go on an ATV trip or sled trip without it. infact I bought my wife hers(120) last year and now I have this 120 for my son. it is much more than a way to talk it is safety and knowing that you will be able to find everyone at all times. it is piece of mind and a must have. don't hold off get one before your next trip and spend some time getting used to it. it may take a bit but you will catch on and even if you only use it a couple times a year it is worth it ...
