    Excellent research tool

I am involved with a quilt exhibit each year at our local county fair where numerous antique quilts are exhibited. Some of the names of the quilts are not known by the owner of the quilts; therefore, this encyclopedia is excellent in researching the pattern names and the period the quilts were probably made.

  • The Ultimate Quilt Pattern Resource - by the Expert!

This is the kind of serious reference that any quilt historian MUST have on their bookshelf. Be forewarned - it WILL add some weight to those shelves. At 551 pages, and almost 4 pounds, this incredible book is aptly named as the "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. Compiled by Quilt historian Barbara Brackman, it includes over 4,000 patterns. The book opens with complete instructions on it's organization, and how to use it to locate patterns. Patterns are categorized in a logical method that makes it easy to find a pattern that you have, but do not know a name for. It is also indexed by name, so you can research and look up patterns by names. The original pattern source or designer, and publications in which is is printed are also listed where known. Alternate ...

  • Got-to-have product for quilt designing!

I bought this book because it was highly recommended for those who like to design their own quilts. It has been helpful, although I do have a newer book that is quite similar. I thought that the "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns" would have instructions as well as the patterns. That was my error. I should have read the description better. It does, however, have a lot of useful history and a detailed description of different types of quilt patterns. That part it quite interesting. Because this book is out of print it was quite pricey. And unfortunately I found it online much cheaper after I received this copy.

  • Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns

One of the best reference books of quilt patterns. It gives the various names of which a pieced pattern is known by as well as a picture. Although it doesn't give piecing directions, most of the blocks are easy to figure out with just a moderate knowledge of piecing techniques and pieces. I would not be afraid to recommend this book to anyone who enjoys quilting, whether just looking at quilts and admiring them, or actually constructing quilts for ones self.

  • Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns

A must have book for Quilt collectors, well organized and so informative. If you want pretty pictures this is not the book for you. This is a reference book with black and white line drawings. The author must have spent years gathering and organizing all the patterns....truly an amazing accomplishment!
