Product Information

Scramble is based on the classic Stern coin-op game of the same name. The object of the game is to maneuver your rocket ship through enemy territory and bomb the enemy base. Each level has six stages. In the first stage you fly over mountains. Later stages will take you into a cavern, over a city, through a subterranean maze, and finally on to the steep canyons where the enemy base is located. In addition to the treacherous terrain, other hazards you will face during your mission include UFO's, indestructible Flamoids, and surface to air missiles. As your ship's fuel dwindles, you will have to bomb enemy fuel tanks to replenish your supply. You begin with five ships. A bonus ship is awarded at 10,000 points.

If you own a vectrex, you should own this
Okay, maybe that's an overstatement. I'll admit that Scramble is not the greatest game for the Vectrex. However, I do say that it is a veritable classic game for an awesome albeit underappreciated console. The plot, like many games from the era, is minimal. You basically maneuver your vehicle, dodge baddies, and rack up points by creating havoc and destruction along your path. This particular game features 6 main parts/areas. You start flying over the mountains. After clearing this, its into the caves. Once past the caves, you must dodge an oncoming barrage of flamoids to make it to the city and finally through a maze and onto the enemy base. Although the action is pretty similar throughout, each stage/area has its own challenges. Some require more accuracy and firepower, others ... Okay, maybe that's an overstatement. I'll admit that Scramble is not the greatest game for the Vectrex. However, I do say that it is a veritable classic game for an awesome albeit underappreciated console. Your weapons are lasers and bombs. I find it best to pump out a constant stream of both. That way you're surer to hit the fuel tanks needed to keep you flying. Also, it gives you more of the classic, vintage arcade sound effects which are killer on this console. All in all, its a classic action game that features 'old-school' side-scrolling' fun. If you're looking for complexity, strategy, etc., look elsewhere. If you want to blow stuff and rack up points, then go with Scramble.
