The corruption of innocence. 1925, Charley Floyd, a good-looking,country boy from Oklahoma robbed his first armored car in St. Louis. This novel follows the career of an American folk hero. A man so charming that people found it hard not to like him even as he was robbing them. Pretty Boy Floyd is an American tragedy, a folktale, that is, a fictional biography of a real Depression era bank robber, Charles Arthur Floyd and the price of fame. Set in the 1930's this novel began as a screenplay. McMurtry takes some artistic license with some historical events but stays true to most of the the facts. The authors also changed some names, mainly that of Charley's girlfriend Beulah's mother. The novel calls her Lulu, but her name was Sadie. Little is Known really about Sadie, which leads one ... pretty boy floyd
after reading this book i found it to a good novel about the life & times of charley floyd but there were some parts left out. i purchased the book to research some of the things my dad told me had happened during the time he knew charley floyd but they were not in the book. i have since ordered a biography of charley floyd. i would recommend the book , its good reading
