Success! Happy this unit is charging the starter battery during operation.
My generator had not been charging the starter battery during cycles for 3 years. Every 2 months I'd been plugging in a car charger to bring the battery up to charge. This part fixed the problem. No longer needed is the supplementary charge. Installation was straightforward. No instructions came with it, but removing the defective unit and installing this replacement went smoothly. I only advise you to make sure you don't drop any screws or nuts, as retrieval may be difficult. My generator had not been charging the starter battery during cycles for 3 years. Generac OEM Battery Charger
Although this is OEM I'm pretty sure it isn't produced by Generac but rather one of their suppliers. The fact that the unit is a casting with the electronics potted (sealed in epoxy) makes it impossible to repair the original so this is really your only plug and play option. There are other options if you are pretty talented with electronics involving the removal of this unit and splicing in a third party 12 volt charger between one of the N connections and the Neutral Line. I know enough to do that but I always prefer "factory" over a spit and bailing wire approach. For what it is it's pretty overpriced but it is easy and doesn't require a visit by a technician. The price on this site was probably the closest thing on the Internet to a fair price. This is my second replacement unit ...
