    After my earlier 1950 buned out after 8 years of round the clock use, I tried the updated 1955. Horrible device. Plus it used much more disc space

    with no greater quality, and rendered a recordable movie about 1/3 the time, the other times the uLead movie manufacturer couldn't load it. My new 1950 brings me back to the easy 99.9% of the time successful movie downloading and recording.

    A Hauppauge video recorder for your laptop.

    I have used a Hauppauge PCI card in my ancient XP desktop for more than a decade. It's died and I needed something for my more modern Win10 laptop. The USB 2.0 connection barely moves the CPU usage percentage. (I tried it on my ancient 1.4 GHz Dell laptop with USB 2.0 ports and it was too slow.) There are minor software differences, but you'll get used to them.

    No longer works for cable TV as all channels are now encrypted

    There is nothing wrong with the device. Problem is the government recently allowed cable companies to encrypt all cable channels making this device useless in that aspect so you are out of luck to use this as you 2nd cable receiver. Your only option now it to get a 2nd set top box. You can still receive antenna channels with this device if that is what you are looking for or use this as an A/V receiver for your computer. .

    Easy with Windows but.....

    Does what it is suppose to do. Super easy to install and use with Windows 10. It takes just a small bit of effort to get it to work with Linux (Firmware & Drivers).
