Aretha Franklin's Gospel Greats 1999 album are songs that were originally released as a double LP in 1972, Amazing Grace cracked the Billboard Top Ten upon it's release, making it one of the bestselling gospel records of all time. Grace was recorded in a large Baptist church with aultraenthusiastic, loving audience in the pews and a full, funky, band as well as the Southern California Community Choir under the direction of her mentor Rev. James Cleveland. Her voice is melismatic and intensely emotional, yet pure and controlled-as if she were directly channeling the Holy Ghost. Aretha's father, the brilliant preacher Rev. C.L. Franklin, makes a brief, proud appearance, remarking how "she has never left the church!" Recorded live at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Los Angeles, California.

    A Collection of Songs Sang Aretha's Soul

    This is young Aretha preforming in the 1960's before an audience at her fathers church. I've checked this CD out from the public library many times and finally decided to own it. These old gospel classics have been recorded by many singers but Aretha is the Queen of Soul and she earned that title because she sings from her soul...she steps into the shoes of the writers of these old hymns and experiences what they were going through and then transfer's that energy on to you and I. The most reserved persons on this planet will find themselves wailing along with Aretha as they listen to these old gospel classics over and over. I believe this CD will become one of your favorites as it has mine.
