For more than 20 years my crew has used radios of this type for communication while afield. I have purchased radios from different manufacturers over the years but have found the Uniden units to be among the most reliable. We needed to add 2 units for this years last outing so I purchased 2 of these MHS75's. I was disappointed to see that there was no AC charger with them. The 12V chargers worked well but we were not properly equipped to charge both units simultaneously. The radios worked well and the audio reception was clear, the large well lit screen was easy to use and they functioned well. Range in the rugged terrain was excellent up to 3 miles was no problem. The battery life was my only concern. While the unit never went dead, by the end of each 10 hour day the battery level ... The battery life was my only concern. While the unit never went dead, by the end of each 10 hour day the battery level indicator was indicating only 1 bar while transmitting on 5 watts and there was concern that full transmit wattage was not being achieved. Some of the more distant people in the crew had difficulty receiving messages. I believe that the batteries may improve with use but if not that would be my only criticism. I will be buying more of these to replace aging existing units as we use these in remote regions and do require reliability above all.
